Preparing Teachers for What Lies Ahead
The IES Model Schools program is working to ensure that the E2CCB Region's teachers are prepared to meet the demands of the Regents Reform Agenda. The graphic below reflects how we view the work that lies ahead and how work in the 2013-2014 school year will be identified.
Computer Based Technology Skills
New York State is a governing member of the PARCC Consortia and is committed to a future that includes Computer Based Testing (CBT). If the Board of Regents adopts the PARCC assessments, CBT in New York State will include innovative items that will require basic technology skills for students such as cutting and pasting, highlighting, manipulating websites and spreadsheets and keyboarding. These are baseline skills that all teachers should be integrating into their classrooms in order for students to be successful.
Common Core Aligned Technology Skills
Technology is infused throughout the Common Core Learning Standards for ELA/Literacy in History, Social Studies and the Technical Areas as well as in Mathematics. Additionally, technology is integrated into the NYS Model Curriculum that districts may choose to adopt, adapt or ignore. These skills include reading and creating digital media, publishing to the Internet and the ability to use a variety of sources including the Internet to conduct research.
Effective Integration of Technology
Beyond the push factors of standards and assessment to integrate technology, most teacher evaluation rubrics include elements of technology integration. Closely aligned with the mission and vision of the IES team, work in this area will be to enhance pedagogy with the infusion of technology.
