Professional Development Badges
Professional development badges are how this course is self-paced. The course is made up of modules where you have the option of earning badges for completion of certain activities. NOTE: Participants from Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES component district who participate in the Model Schools Coser (Coser 566) may also earn professional development credit hours for each badge earned. Please contact Theresa Gray for additional details.
- You are free to work through all of the badges or just the ones that interest you.
- There is no required order - although in this course it makes sense to begin with the first badge as that sets up your Twitter account!
- You can work on one or several at a time.
- To be awarded a badge - you will need to have a Credly account and to contact Theresa Gray with your email.
- Participants are able to earn badges at any time up to December . The course will remain open after that time but we will not be awarding credit.
- Because badges are based upon completion of all requirements for the badge, resubmissions after feedback is provided are welcome and encouraged. In other words, if you submit evidence and the facilitator determines that it does not meet the the criteria, you can rework your submission and submit it again.
Twitter Lurker
Twitter "lurkers" are often new to social media and while they don't seem active they follow along with the action. This is a natural phase of Twitter use!! And some studies show that 40% of active Twitter users are actually lurkers.
In this module, you will learn more about Twitter and how educators have found it to be useful. Earning this badge will require you to create Twitter account and to begin to follow educators (and others).

Building A Twitter Community
Educators who use Twitter often refer to those that they follow and interact with their "Personal Learning Network" (PLN). Building this community is when the real promise of Twitter in education comes to fruition.
In this module, you will learn more about finding a purpose for using Twitter, building your own PLN and explore applications that can be used with Twitter. Earning this badge will require you to "tweet" regularly (2-3x a week), build "lists" of those you follow and building a presence on Twitter.

Twitter Back-Channel Master
This badge represents your ability to use Twitter as a backchannel for your own learning. Select an upcoming meeting or live professional development opportunity and create a hashtag to share your learning (or use the one that is provided by the facilitator!). Or if you are reading a book (professional or otherwise) and want to share your learning - create a hashtag and use Twitter as your backchannel. You will be surprised to see how many are doing the same!
In this module, you will learn what a backchannel is, how organizations and educational institutions are using a backchannel and then backchannel your learning!

Twitter Community Leader
This badge represents your ability to use Twitter to develop your social media leadership through participation in an EdChat and by sharing resources, asking questions and responding to the tweets of others. As this happens, you will gain more followers and people will begin to seek you out and "tag" you in resources that they post.
In this module, you will learn what Twitter "chats" are all about, play with different ways to participate in a Twitter chat, explore the many educational "chats" that are available and then participate (or host) one!
